Destination: Ft. George River
Directions: Ft. George River can be accessed via the bridges off A1A or from the Kingsley Plantation just before you reach Huguenot Memorial Park (COJ) on A1A.
Description: Ft. George River runs from the Ft. George Inlet just north of Huguenot Park to the north and west to where it ultimately joins the ICW. It bounds the west and north sides of Ft. George Island. It has significant sand bars and grass islands, as well as access to the southern portion of Simpson Creek. The area south of the inlet on the interior is known as the lake and during summer months it is a great location to net finger mullet.
Difficulty: Easy in the inlet lake, Moderate in the River depending on wind and tide conditions.
Closest Bait&Tackle Shop: White Shell Fish Camp on the north side is to the west of the ferry docks, and B&M Bait&Tackle is on the way to the ferry on the south side.
Launches: There are two launch locations for the Ft. George River.
- L1 – This is the Alimacani COJ Boat Ramp directly off A1A that takes you into the base of the Ft. George River. It has ample parking and a minimal launch for canoes, kayaks, and small boats.
- L2 – The Ribault House in the Kingsley Plantation has a small boat ramp and parking for about a half dozen cars. Enter Ft. George Island at the Kingsley Plantation sign and follow the road bearing right until you reach the Ribault House, then proceed through the gate and around to the east of the house. Hours are 8am to sunset.
